8 Random Things About Me
Mar 28th, 2008 by Sean
Shana, a.k.a. TheNanny612, pointed her magical meme wand at me and asked me to write “8 Random Things About Me.” After being flattered, I became worried. I’m not sure if I’ve ever written eight paragraphs just about me. Here goes.
1. I’m very disciplined. I’m particularly disciplined with exercise. I exercise six days a week. When I was in college, I developed a blister on my heal. I was so determined to stay in shape for an upcoming physical fitness test, I continued to run on the blister. The blister became infected, the infection ran up my leg, and I skulked to the ER. My mom was the nurse in the ER. The doctor shot my heel full of Novocain but didn’t wait long enough for it to take effect. As he started to trim the raw skin away, my mother held my leg down. It was the only time I’ve ever seen her look uncomfortable around blood. I was on crutches for three weeks.
2. Staying on the medical bent, my heart stopped about this time last year. I was under general anesthesia for arthroscopic knee surgery and my heart rate kept creeping down until someone called a code. They gave me compressions and medication to get the pulse going again. Of course I don’t remember it. I just woke up to what I thought was a whole lot of people around for knee surgery. Reason? A type of allergic reaction to one of the anesthetic agents.
3. I think my best athletic performance was when I was a freshman in high school. I was the catcher for the junior varsity baseball team. We were playing our rivals and the opposing pitcher was throwing heat. We couldn’t touch him. He gave up just three hits the entire game. I had two of them, a double and a triple. I was dialed in and crushed each one. Two for three. Defensively, there were two stolen base attempts. I threw the guy out both times (it was the same guy, no respect!). I’ve hit better and caught better on other days and at higher levels, but that day was special. I was in my own space.
4. My family is the best. I had a great childhood. My sister and mother and father are some of the best folks around. Sure, we had our struggles. We didn’t live in an utopia and we sure don’t now, but we always have each other. I know I drove all of them crazy at times (probably still do), but I always feel their love.
5. I don’t show my teeth when I smile very often because I don’t like the space between my two front teeth. It’s not as large as the space that Giants’ Michael Strahan sports (it’s real growth that I can mention him after the Giants beat the Patriots), but it’s not far off.
6. I like trying to touch wild animals. It’s nothing perverted, but I just like it. This list was seeming too staid, so I had to add a truly random one.

7. I love stories. I never feel complete unless I’m reading a good book. I wrote a novel too. It’s just sitting around. Want to read a chapter?
8. I wish I had straight hair as I did when I was kid. I think it’s tough for guys to look good with curly or wavy hair. It needs to be grown out to look cool and then cool doesn’t cut it in the workplace.

Yes! Eight random things. What are eight random things about you? Or one or two? The comments are all yours.
In the spirit of the meme, I’m going to tag three people to share their own random things. Because I don’t know many people in social media, these people are random themselves. Well, that is, how I found them is random.

Ooh I don’t know about this. I think I’ve put many things about me in the blog – to write 8 more might short circuit me. I know I wrote 8 before somewhere! Ok, Ok – here’s some. Many more than 8 and not in the format you requested – but sorry, I don’t usually respond to these things – but you seemed like a good guy! Vern Bio Best of Life! – Vern
Love that kid-picture. I wish I had curly hair! Now I understand your comment on my blog… I was wondering why anyone would WANT that surgery! It wasn’t too bad although there was a TON of blood.
This is great! #1 is so true. Wish I was half as disciplined. #2 Don’t pull that again! #3 Wow, that’s incredible. Headed south from there, huh? #4 Very blessed. #5 But it sure makes flossing a cinch. #6 Dances with wolves #7 Yeah, I would and more cause the last thing I remember Levi was making cous cous and Tommy wasn’t liking it. Quit leaving me hangin!!! #8 Let it grow. I like the picture.
Those 8 things are great! And what a cute little boy your were. Awwww. The wild animal thing….well, that’s just plain old dangerous.
@Vern, Thanks for writing. Your bio is interesting.
@Caity, Thanks. No, I’m not into pain. There was a reason
@Soccermama, Thanks for the detailed answers.
@Kristen, Thanks! It’s fun with the animals, as long as they don’t have teeth.
1. I’m half Asian, specifically half Filipino. Most people don’t guess that due to my fair skin and light brown / dark blonde hair.
2. I turn beet read when I consume alcohol (this seems common in Asians).
3. I ran / walked a marathon in Hawaii to raise money for stroke awareness after my father had a stroke.
4. I was an avid tennis player from childhood through high school. I played on the tennis team at our local swim / tennis club every summer and sometimes during the winter as well.
5. I have several guilty pleasures in the form of TV shows that are probably meant for people half my age (i.e., The Hills, Newport Harbor, Gossip Girl).
6. I had to wear a brace for part of junior high and high school for scoliosis. It wasn’t visible. Once some guys playing lacrosse accidentally hit me with the ball. The sound of it hitting my brace sounded like a ball bouncing off of a wall. You should have seen their faces!
7. I was at Boston’s Logan airport on September 11 trying to board a plane for Seattle, WA. The pandemonium at the airport and then my subsequent realization that those flights came from Logan have left an imprint on my memory.
8. I love the ocean. I love the sand between my toes. I love spending the day on the water and feeling the salt on my skin. I love the smell. I love the feel of the sea breeze.
P.S. Love that photo of you. : ) I see the space between your two front teeth even then.
I wondered if the space between your teeth was why you don’t show your teeth that much when you smile-now I know. But, I wish you would. You may notice the space, but others do not and you have a great smile and an even better one when you show your teeth!!
@bythsea, Great things. Thanks!
@Rabbit, You would say that!
Sean,
Thanks for tagging me. I enjoy your blog and the two others you tagged and all three may never have crossed my screen. Fun!
